If you were looking for a reason to happy cry in the middle of the week, we have found it for you. Fanpage released a video earlier this year that explores what happens when you put a boy in front of a girl and ask him to slap her, capturing how children react to the subject of violence against women.

The boys in the short film are both charming and sincere, wrapped in an aura of innocence that only they could have. The girl in front of them is beautiful and authentically human in her reactions to both the funny and more serious responses she receives. That said, the video has its flaws for sure. For starters, it is full of gender stereotypes. The concept of not hitting obviously needs to be extended toward any child of any gender at any time. And many commentators have noted the same concern. Dr. Rebecca Haines has even gone so far as to say that the video “objectifies girls, exploits boys, and trivializes domestic violence.” I don’t entirely agree – there is a part of me that feels like this is a step in the right direction, and from a marketing perspective the video is gold.
